Clip Art Library

Are you looking for some clip art to polish off your word processor document or other presentation? Or perhaps you are putting together your own website and looking for just the right piece of clip art? The following websites offer countless clip art files in a wide variety of categories. Most files on these websites are in the public domain and/or licensed under a Creative Commons license, meaning that they are free to use and share, privately and commercially. Copyright laws are a bit complicated, so you may want to read the fine print and do your legal research before you use any piece of clip art in your published or commercial work. That said, for the most part, clip art from the following sources can be freely used for your work:

Open Clip Art Library

The Open Clip Art Library is an archive of user contributed clip art. All clip art files in this archive are considered to be in the public domain. This website is affiliated with Creative Commons, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to make it easier for people to share and build upon the creative works of others.

WPClipart

The WPClipart collection was put together by Paul Sherman. The collection consists of thousands of clip art images optimized for word processors and inkjet printers, and also suitable for use in websites. The website includes easy to use browse and search functions. All images are considered to be in the public domain.

Public Domain Clip Art (PDClipart.org)

This Public Domain Clip Art website is a volunteer project. The website offers thousands of public domain clip art images, along with browse and search functions.

Clker.com

Clker.com, owned by Brain Waves LLC, offers a user contributed collection of thousands of public domain vector clip art images. Website features include image tagging and commenting, and browse and search functions. Also, when the search function is used, subcategories are offered, allowing you to narrow down your search to find the image that you want.

Public Domain Clip Art Blog

This Public Domain Clip Art blog is a guide to better quality public domain clip art images and photos. A large number of images are available, along with detailed and educational commentary on each image. The commentary includes the background behind the image, image source and copyright information.

Reference and outline maps of the United States at Nationalatlas.gov

Nationalatlas.gov provides various outline and reference maps of the United States. There are maps of the United States as a whole, and maps for each state. Outline maps are easily customizable for your own purposes. Reference maps include features such as boundaries, cities, counties, capitals, interstate and other major highways, rivers and lakes, and terrain. These maps are in the public domain and may be used for most any purpose.

I'm always on the lookout for great clip art image resources. If you know of any websites that should be included in this list, please e-mail us.
