Going back to Broadway and 42nd Street in New York

All that walking around the Broadway district in New York City had me hungering for a good Broadway show.

As it turned out, one of the best known musicals of Broadway, 42nd Street, was playing at the San Diego Civic Theater shortly after I returned home. So I went online to Ticketmaster.com and purchased a ticket for a seat somewhere in the middle of the front section of the theater for $68.00. It was a bit pricey, but I thought it would be worth it for this once in a lifetime Broadway experience.

The show offered everything one could expect from a Broadway musical, energy, music, dancing, glitz and a story of hope.

The story is about Peggy Sawyer, a young lady who has just arrived by bus from her home in Allentown, Pennsylvania, carrying only her overnight bag. She is a small time dancer with dreams of becoming a big star on 42nd Street in New York City. Due to hard work and being in the right place in the right time, she realizes her dreams.

From the opening energetic tap dancing scene that lighted up the stage, to the finale, my eyes and ears were drawn to the stage, the story, the music, the orchestra and the excitement of it all. If one wants to see just one Broadway musical in their lifetime, this would be one I would recommend, a Broadway musical about Broadway hopes.

So I didn’t see a Broadway show in New York, but this experience satisfied my appetite for a Broadway show. I do not see myself spending another $68.00 for a ticket to a show in a long time.
